Hi guys! Thanks for joining me! Today we’re working with a cast-in-place foundation that has a crack. With this kind of foundation, the concrete is poured in between forms which are reinforced and strengthened with rebar.
The Problem
A section of the foundation of this house has come loose and worked its way around the side, causing long, horizontal cracks. And while I’m seeing some vertical cracking, there’s no signs of stair-stepping in the brickwork. So I don’t think there are any issues with the footing.
The Waterproof Solution
This is probably a three-thousand-pound foundational pour. So we want to make sure that our repair is just as strong. We’re going to attack the problem by doing a four-foot dig n’ seal to prevent leaking. Then we’ll apply carbon fiber as reinforcement. Carbon fiber increases the tensile strength of the concrete.
This is the simplest, least invasive approach to foundation repair. With this approach, we can take care of the house structurally from the outside. While we’re at it, we’ll also make sure the downspouts are flowing properly. This will prevent further damage to the foundation.
