To Pier or not to Pier

Stephen: That’s right. Very good. Very good!
The Problem
So there was a patch on a wall using hydraulic cement. Below that, there’s a break in the footing. And there’s no associated breaks in the rest of the foundation, so it’s in a very bound up kind of situation.
There’s a strip of new concrete running across the floor away from the wall because they had a new lateral put in. Unfortunately, that undermined the foundation, which caused a break.
The Waterproof Solution
We don’t want to stick a peer underneath the break because there’s a pipe there now. So it’s going to have to be bridged on both sides or we inject it with carbon fiber and hope we don’t have any movement.
And I say ‘hope’, because I don’t know. I think it’s very important that when we don’t understand something or we’re not positive about how we’re going to go about it , that we don’t just throw money at it. We make a conscious decision.
But it’s very important that we have a discussion about situations like this. At the end of the day, it’s always good to ask questions. If something doesn’t seem like it’s right, it isn’t right. If it quacks like a duck? It’s usually a duck. It’s not about being right; it’s about getting it right.
